Thanks sammyboyfor. My degree is recognised in NZ just that I will have to go through certain conversion stages to familiarise myself with NZ law. I may have issues with getting residency (although I'm OZ-born) because my OZ citizenship was renounced with no attempts whatsoever to reapply for it.

If you reapply and get your OZ citizenship back, you automatically qualify for NZ residency.

Since your degree is recognised I believe all you have to do is work under the guidance of an established firm for a period of time before you can practice on your own.
